Everyone is invited on Saturday, Oct. 19 to join a public celebration of world-class research being conducted right here in Brandon.
“We have wonderful faculty members who are doing inspiring research every day, and this is an opportunity to hear the latest, right from them,” said Dr. Steve Robinson, BU’s Vice-President (Academic & Provost). His office is organizing the event, which is part of Homecoming weekend at BU.
Wine and cheese will be on offer as researchers give short presentations of about three minutes each about their work. Some researchers will be displaying posters around campus for people who want to learn more research while taking a walk around the campus. Researchers will also be on hand at the event to discuss their work and answer questions.
“There is an incredibly varied schedule for the afternoon,” Dr. Robinson said. “You’ll hear about research from the galactic scale to the cellular scale, and everything in-between.”
All of the research being presented at the event was funded in-house by Brandon University’s own research grants. Researchers at BU also bring in millions of dollars in external funding for research each year.
The “World-Class Research: Built in Brandon Presentation” is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will last approximately two hours. No registration is necessary.
“This is just one of the many ways we are opening up our campus to everyone during Homecoming,” said Carla Eisler, BU’s Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs. “We are kicking things off with an amazing public keynote from the founder of War Child Canada, Dr. Samantha Nutt, continuing Friday with a Bobcat volleyball home opener tailgate party, and hosting a full day Saturday, from a cereal bar and morning movie showing through a full afternoon of family activities, including the Built in Brandon research presentations.”
Many Homecoming events, including the research presentations, are open to the public and free. For more information, see BrandonU.ca/Homecoming.
