An academic leader at Brandon University is taking the next step in his career.
Dr. Andrew Egan, BU’s Dean of Science, will leave his position in February to assume the role of Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer at Penn State Greater Allegheny in McKeesport, Pa. Egan is a graduate of Penn State, having earned a PhD in Forest Resources (1993).
“Andrew has been a valued member of the Brandon University community,” said Acting Vice-President, Academic, Dr. Steven Robinson. “At BU, we believe in creating opportunities for our students, faculty and staff. Andrew’s advancement to a key position in the prestigious Pennsylvania State University reflects the calibre and achievements of the faculty and staff here at BU.”
Egan joined BU in 2013 and has made a tremendous contribution to the university, where he also formerly served as Acting Associate Vice-President of Research. He launched the publication GameChangers to highlight research and innovation at BU, and helped to initiate a successful research symposium in which more than 40 faculty members shared their findings on a wide variety of topics in three-minute sessions. As Dean of Science, Egan developed partnerships that have resulted in a jointly funded faculty position with the University College of the North and the contribution of more than $1 million in lab equipment and student scholarships.
Robinson indicates that an Interim Dean of Science will be named in the new year, with the search for a permanent Dean of Science to begin at the first opportunity.
