BRANDON, MB – A key member from one of the country’s top comprehensive universities is joining the student success team at Brandon University (BU).

Tom Brophy, AVP, BU (web)Tom Brophy assumes the new role of Associate Vice-President (Student Services and Enrolment Management) and University Registrar. Most recently, he served as Director, Student Success Programs at Memorial University, in Newfoundland and Labrador, the largest University in Atlantic Canada.

“Tom’s development of student services at Memorial, including award-winning orientation, leadership, and international programs, is a big reason we wanted him at BU,” says President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah Poff. “Student success is a cornerstone in our University’s strategic plan, and Tom has a history of delivering.”

Brophy has spent 15 years in post‐secondary education and five years with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, including executive assistant to the Minister of Finance. BU’s Board of Governors approved Brophy’s appointment this week. He will begin September 16, 2013.

“I see many parallels between BU and Memorial,” says Brophy, “notably the combining of Student Services and the Registrar’s Office, and I look forward to the opportunities which will come from this blending.  I believe that Brandon University can use its programs, people, resources and size to position itself as a leader and I am excited to take part.”

Brandon University, founded in 1899, promotes excellence in teaching, research and scholarship; educating students so that they can make a meaningful difference as engaged citizens and leaders.
