Brandon University Makes the Grade — Sixth in National Survey for Academic Advising Assistance

This article is over 13 years old.

BRANDON, MB — The students have spoken! Brandon University has been deemed the sixth best institution out of 39 Canadian universities, thanks to its programs to help students choose a program and select courses. The CUSC (Canadian University Survey Consortium) survey, which was commissioned by the universities, asked more than 100 questions about specific aspects of the undergraduate experience—inside the classroom and beyond—designed to provide universities with data to help them assess programs and services.

“This is a testament to our academic advisors and their steadfast commitment to providing one-on-one advising with each of our first year students,” said the Brandon University Dean of Students, David Rowland. “With our TREK program, all first year students undergo mandatory advising as part of their matriculation, ensuring that first year students receive the proper academic guidance and support throughout their transition to Brandon University”.

Each year, the survey targets one of three student populations: first-year students, graduating students and all undergrads. In 2010, the institutions that took part each administered an online questionnaire to a random sample of approximately 1,000 of their first-year students. Schools with fewer than 1,000 first-year students surveyed their entire student population. In total, more than 12,500 students took part, with an overall response rate of 39 per cent.
