The Brandon University Student Music Educators Association (BUSMEA), in partnership with the Westman Band Directors Association (WMBDA), instrumental music teachers, and stakeholders in the Westman region, are proud to announce the launch of a national Beginning Band Composition Competition, with a submission deadline of Nov. 1, 2025.

This landmark initiative coincides with two major milestones for BUSMEA: the organization’s 40th anniversary and the 20th annual Da Capo Conference, hosted by the Brandon University School of Music.

BRANDON – The Brandon University (BU) Orchestra, Concert Choir, Chorale and Symphonic Band will be joined by students from local high schools to perform music by BU Professor T. Patrick Carrabré at a special concert on Sunday, March 4 at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (WMCA).
Honouring Carrabré’s significant contribution to Canadian music, 25 years at Brandon University and his 60th birthday, the program will include a number of works that have never been performed for local audiences.
