BRANDON, MB – The Association for Canadian and Quebec Literatures (ACQL) awarded the 2009 Gabrielle Roy Prize (English Section) to Di Brandt of Brandon University and the late Barbara Godard of York University.
  Each year, the Gabrielle Roy Prize (English Section) honours the best work of Canadian literary criticism published in English.

Calgary, AB – Brandon University’s SIFE team has been awarded third place at the 2010 Students In Free Enterprise National Champion by national charitable organization Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) and a 50 person judging panel comprised of top Canadian CEOs. SIFE Brandon was also awarded second place in Canada for the TD Canada Trust Entrepreneurship Challenge.

Brandon, MB – As a token of support for a recent visit by BU students, the Netherlands Embassy donated and sent 100 bulbs to Brandon University last fall. They have now been planted at the front of Clark, where they can be a reminder for students and staff alike will be able to enjoy the tulips year after year and will be reminded of their fantastic learning experience in Europe.

BRANDON, MB – The Brandon University Hort-Line – the Horticultural Hotline – will be in operation for the 2009 summer beginning on Monday, May 17.
  The Hort-Line will be available for local green thumbs to call for help with plant, tree and lawn problems.
  This year, Padraic Mahood will be on the other end, answering calls and providing assistance.

The annual “E-Gré Competition,” now in its 33rd year, took place in Lorne Watson Recital Hall at the Brandon University School of Music April 30 to May 2. This year’s competition was for pianists. Nine semi-finalists performed public recitals on April 30 & May 1, after which three were chosen to advance to the finals and perform completely different programs on May 2.
  Focusing on Canadian and contemporary music and exceptional performance, the E-Gré Competition was created as a tribute to composer and pianist/violinist Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté.

BRANDON, MB – Brandon University’s Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (BScPN) program was honoured with a special award Thursday evening in Winnipeg.
  The College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) bestowed upon the faculty, a Special 50 th Anniversary Award, as a thank you for the significant contribution made towards the profession in Manitoba.

  “Gil Cheung will be a tremendous ambassador for Brandon University in our community and a long term solution to the coaching challenges for men’s basketball.

BRANDON, MB – Two Brandon University students have received Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) offered through NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada). These awards are valued at $17,500 a year per student.
