One of Brandon University’s most distinguished alumni, Brian Pallister, has been named to the Order of Manitoba.

Pallister is a double alumnus of BU, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1975 and a Bachelor of Education in 1978. He was also a standout Bobcat basketball player and later provincial champion curler. After BU, he went on to careers in education, insurance, and both federal and provincial politics, culminating in his election as Manitoba Premier in 2016 and re-election in 2019.

Throughout, Pallister has maintained a strong connection with his alma mater, including the endowment of multiple scholarship awards with his wife Esther.

Pallister was one of 12 Manitobans announced as new inductees to the Order of Manitoba on Tuesday morning. The formal investiture ceremony is scheduled to be held on Thursday, July 16 at the Manitoba Legislative Building.

The Order of Manitoba was established in 1999 to honour Manitobans who have demonstrated excellence and achievement, thereby enriching the social, cultural or economic well-being of the province and its residents. Appointments to the order are made by the chancellor based on the recommendations of an advisory council. Order of Manitoba members are entitled to use the initials O.M. after their names for life. The list of all members of the Order of Manitoba is on permanent display in the Legislative Building.
