The Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival continues its tribute to Maurice Ravel with a unique evening that reimagines some of the composer’s most iconic works.
The next concert in the series will take place on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m., in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, in Brandon University’s (BU’s) Queen Elizabeth II Music Building.
Audiences will enjoy rarely-heard arrangements that bring fresh perspectives to Ravel’s genius:
- Shéhérazade, arranged for voice, flute, and piano — rich in exotic colors and storytelling, featuring soprano Sharon Rogers and flutist Nancy Hennen;
- Boléro, reimagined for two pianos — Ravel’s ever-popular rhythmic masterpiece, familiar to many, now presented in a powerful, intimate, and thrilling two-piano arrangement, offering a completely new way to experience its hypnotic drive;
- Concerto for the Left Hand in D Major, arranged for two pianos — originally composed for Paul Wittgenstein, who lost the use of his right arm during World War I. Ravel’s ingenious writing transforms it into a rich, virtuosic, and unforgettable experience playable entirely with the left hand.
