BRANDON — Talented Brandon University (BU) alumni will be in the spotlight when Jana Starling, on clarinet, and Allison Wiebe, on piano, perform a pro series concert on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m., at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall.

Starling and Wiebe will present an evening of contemporary and evocative works, showcasing hidden gems by Canadian composers, including Juno Award winner and fellow BU alumna Jocelyn Morlock, as well as unorthodox and imaginative Albertan composer Ian Crutchley. The evening will also include a performance of the powerful and captivating Bright Angel, by American composer Roshanne Etezady.

“Jana and Allison are remarkable musicians and educators who are wonderful ambassadors of Brandon University,” said Dr. Leanne Zacharias, Acting Dean of Music at BU. “They have put together a captivating evening of music, and we’re delighted to welcome them back for this performance.”

Starling is an Associate Professor in Western University’s Don Wright Faculty of Music. She is a member of Ironwood Trio, which released its debut CD, “Destiny,” in 2019, and she has also released two solo albums, “Mythos,” in 2011 and “Inflexion,” in 2006. After receiving her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from BU, Starling went on to earn a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts at Arizona State University.

She also holds a Master of Music from Western University in piano literature and performance.
