The Loy Excellentia Initiative — a non-profit organization founded by BU professor Dr. Aloysius Anyichie in 2023 — has opened registration for a peer mentorship program that’s designed to support students of African descent studying at post-secondary institutions across Canada in the 2025–26 academic year.
This free mentorship program pairs incoming or early-stage students with experienced students, or pairs students in their final year with professionals who can provide guidance, shared cultural understanding, and practical strategies for success in academic, personal and professional life in Canada.
Participants in the Loy Excellentia Mentorship Program will benefit from:
- Meaningful peer connections with African and Black students/Mentors across Canada
- Cultural understanding and shared lived experiences
- Guidance from students/professionals who have successfully navigated academic and social transitions in Canada
- A supportive community that enhances both academic and personal growth
- Leadership development opportunities for mentors
- Confidence-building and success support for mentees
Whether participants are settling into life in Canada, planning an academic journey, or seeking to build leadership and mentoring skills, this program provides a valuable and supportive network.
Learn more about the program at https://loyexcellentia.org/programs-list/. The deadline to register is Nov. 30, 2025.
