A massive new BU Bobcats logo greets visitors at the entrance to the Brandon University Healthy Living Centre. Painted directly on the asphalt in the intersection at 20th Street and Louise Avenue, the new logo was freshly installed just in time for Convocation.
A full 24 feet across, the logo took a full day to be installed by Brandon University and JCI team members who used a complicated series of interlocking stencils to mask different areas while painting each colour separately.
Brandon University worked with the City of Brandon to authorize the logo installation, which is the first coloured intersection treatment like this in a public roadway anywhere in the city. Along with the adjacent “Go Bobcats” and new Bobcat-pawprint crosswalks, the eye-catching intersection will help draw drivers’ attention to the space, which is a busy pedestrian crossing. Recently, the City and BU also reduced speed limits to 30 km/h in the area.
Special road paint for the stencil, from Sherwin-Williams, was used to minimize chances that the artwork was slippery, and to maximize its longevity.
