New signs show emergency assembly points

New signage on campus shows everyone where to gather in an emergency if an evacuation is required.

Approximately 10 new signs were installed, marking Emergency Assembly Points outside of campus buildings. During regular fire drills, or in an actual emergency, they are clearly marked as the best place to gather.

Although people on campus regularly move from building to building and room to room throughout the day, meaning it’s not possible to use muster points for headcounts, having a designated space to gather can assist emergency responders in rendering assistance and communicating effectively.

While Emergency Assembly Points have been designated for each building, emergency conditions such as smoke or blocked exits could make one assembly point more suitable than another. Once it is safe to return following a drill or emergency, an air horn will be used to sound three short blasts, giving everyone the all-clear.

A map of the Emergency Assembly Points is below. Questions can be directed to Al Trotz, BU’s Health and Safety Advisor, at TrotzA@BrandonU.ca.
