Black Friday is back at Brandon University

The one-day sale of the year is back at Brandon University. Following a popular launch last year, BU is once again offering free applications for Canadian students during a 24-hour Black Friday blitz.

“The earlier you apply, the better,” said BU Director of Recruitment Leanne Barcellona, noting that beating the rush means students can stay focused on finishing high school, start to make plans for the fall, and ensure they’re considered for early scholarships.

The one-day fee holiday is once again open to all Canadian students, who would normally pay a $70 application fee, which helps cover the costs of processing. The university offers similar fee waivers during some open houses or school visits, but the one-day Black Friday sale is a way to open it up to prospective students from across the country.

“As Canada’s Finest Regional University, we are the top choice for students in our own backyard,” Barcellona said. “I’d encourage students from anywhere in Canada to give us a look — BU has great programs, affordable tuition and housing, and Brandon is just the right size for your first time living away from home. We might also be Canada’s Finest Best-Kept Secret.”

For students who were unsure about BU, or about university in general, sending in their application on Black Friday is a risk-free way to check us out.

However, she cautioned that so many people took advantage of Black Friday last year that processing times to verify applications and admit students took a little longer than normal.

“We’re still accepting applications for students to start in January 2025, and we want to make sure they get their acceptance letters in time for the new semester,” she said. “Everyone in the Admissions office is working hard to get your application processed and welcome you to BU.”

To get the deal, all students need to do is apply and the discount will be offered to all Canadian applicants automatically. The promotion will run from midnight to midnight (Brandon time CST) on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024. If you encounter an issue, make sure your payment method is selected as “Black Friday”.

Let’s Start:

1. Apply online. Complete and submit the online application and be sure to indicate all institutions attended/attending in your application. Almost all communications from the Admissions Office will be sent by email. Use an email account that you check regularly and add us to your safe-sender list.
2. Save the fee! You can start your application anytime, but remember to submit it between midnight and midnight (Brandon time, CST) on Black Friday to get the deal! Applications are free for Canadians on Black Friday. But this price won’t last — take advantage now!
3. Submit your documents. We’ll send you details on how to do this after we receive your application. Review Canadian required documents.
4. Watch your email! Once we have your application, your fee, and your documents, we’ll review and send an Offer of Admission to everyone who’s eligible. We can’t wait to see you!
