Brandon University’s (BU’s) School of Music invites you to immerse yourself in the calming vocal cadences of timeless holiday classics as Proximus5 visits for a pro series performance on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Nöel Nocturne, headlined by the celebrated Winnipeg a cappella quintet, will begin at 7:30 p.m., at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, inside the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building. Proxiumus5, on their Holiday Tour, will feature a pair of Brandon University alumni, and will be joined by Invicta, BU’s brand-new men’s chamber ensemble. They will present a night of joyous music that celebrates the spirit of the season.

“The recent weather has reminded us that the holidays are right around the corner, and if the snow on the ground doesn’t get you in the spirit, then the elegant harmonies of Proximus5 certainly will,” said Greg Gatien, Dean of the School of Music. “I’m delighted to welcome Proximus5 to our stage and equally thrilled that our own Invicta will join them on the program for a crowd-pleasing performance.”

Dan Rochegood, countertenor; Scott Reimer, baritone and countertenor; James Magnus-Johnston, tenor; Paul Bruch-Wiens, baritone; and Jereme Wall, bass, comprise Proximus5, a group renowned for their spine-tingling harmonies and exquisite vocal arrangements. Karla Ferguson, alto, will fill in for Magnus-Johnston for Saturday’s performance. Both Wall and Ferguson are BU alumni. The program will feature a festive mix of traditional carols and contemporary holiday compositions, all beautifully arranged to highlight the ensemble’s dynamic vocal prowess.

“If the snow on the ground doesn’t get you in the spirit, then the elegant harmonies of Proximus5 certainly will.”

Greg Gatien, Dean of the School of Music

The ticket price for the Saturday, Nov. 30 performance by Proximus5 is $20 for general admission and free for BU and Conservatory of Music students. Tickets will be available at the door.
