Homecoming offers something for everyone. Among this year's events are the return of the Terry Fox Run to campus.

Brandon University (BU) welcomes the entire community to this week’s Homecoming.

Homecoming will double as a birthday party, kicking off festivities that will take place throughout the 2024–25 academic year in commemoration of 125 years since the founding of Brandon College in 1899.

“We’re celebrating the past, present and future of BU, and our entire city and region are a major part of that,” said Carla Eisler, Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs at BU. “At the core of Homecoming are heartfelt alumni get-togethers as we warmly reconnect with old friends, and this year we’ve added even more wide-ranging events with something to appeal to everyone.”

The revelry begins on Thursday, Sept. 12, with the annual Homecoming Concert and wraps up on Sunday, Sept. 15 with the Terry Fox Run and the Farewell Brunch. Activities in between will include the BU125 Birthday Celebration, the Blue & Gold Social, PrairieCon Games Day, a free talk on health care by renowned physician and CBC host Dr. Brian Goldman, and a tour of the Bee U hives.

Sprinkled throughout are a series of research presentations, starting on Thursday with “A Gathering of Minds” on post-secondary education after Covid, plus talks later in the weekend on artificial intelligence and food security. On Saturday, a “World-Class Research” celebration brings BU faulty to the fore to present engaging and informative three-minute presentations — just the ticket to wow friends or guests at your next dinner party.

“This year we’ve added even more wide-ranging events with something to appeal to everyone.”

Homecoming will also feature events crafted especially for alumni, including special anniversary class reunions and BU’s annual Homecoming Dinner & Awards, where outstanding BU alumni and milestone class years will be recognized.

Some events have costs and require pre-registration is required, but most are free and open to anyone to drop in. A full schedule of events is available at Brandonu.ca/Homecoming.

“Fall has been fantastic this year at BU,” said President and Vice-Chancellor David Docherty. “Our students, faculty and staff are back in full force, and our campus is buzzing. Our Bobcat teams have sprung into action, and an incredible array of community events has already begun. I’m delighted to welcome all friends back and every year I meet someone new and fascinating.”
