Acclaimed author and radio host Dr. Brian Goldman will deliver a free public talk at Brandon University next weekend as part of BU Homecoming 2024.
In his talk, Dr. Goldman will speak about health care in Westman and the power of teamwork, including BU’s plans to host a medical school on its campus.
“There’s an extreme shortage of physicians right across Canada. The most effective way to address that is to think locally. I’ll tell you why I believe Brandon University has an exciting idea to do just that,” said Dr. Goldman. “I’m really looking forward to my first visit to Brandon.”
The talk is free and open to all. However, pre-registration is encouraged, as there are limited seats.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Goldman to deliver this year’s JRC Evans Public Lectureship and to talk about critical issues facing health care in our region, as well as strategies to tackle these issues,” said Carla Eisler, Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations and one of the organizers of BU Homecoming. “This is a topic that touches us all, and we expect an eager crowd.”
Dr. Goldman is one of those rare individuals with great success in not one but several adrenaline-pumping careers. He is a highly regarded emergency physician at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He is also a medical commentator providing insights throughout COVID. He’s the host of CBC’s award-winning radio show “White Coat, Black Art”, where he takes listeners behind the scenes of hospitals and doctor’s offices, and host of the podcast “The Dose” on current events in healthcare. He shares the lessons he learns in healthcare to benefit others; both in the healthcare industry and to help organizations learn from high stakes environments.
“When I hear ‘White Coat, Black Art’ on the radio, it’s always one of those shows where I know I might end up sitting in my driveway to make sure I catch the end. It’s gripping and informative, and I can’t wait to hear from Dr. Goldman in person,” said BU President David Docherty. “Brandon University is working hard to bring physician education right here to Brandon, and we aim to minimum of 10 students every year. But we can’t do that without a great team — and that’s what Dr. Goldman will highlight.”
Dr. Goldman’s public lecture will take place in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at the BU School of Music on Saturday, Sept. 14, beginning at 2 p.m.
