Deborah Sanders is being remembered for her friendly customer service and her commitment to the Food Services team at Brandon University (BU), following her passing on December 31, 2023.

Sanders joined BU as a Food Service Worker in 2019 and also served as a Clerk for the Everyone Eats program when it was operated by Food Services.

“All the staff here always wanted to work with Deb as a first choice. She was always upbeat, helpful, and willing to do anything to satisfy the students and customers here,” said Food Services Manager JD Braid. “Deb was a huge proponent of teamwork and always contributed with her best foot forward, even when she wasn’t feeling great. If there was ever a day that I was needing a pick-me-up, I would just go and say hi to Deb; her smile and positive attitude were so contagious that it only took a few seconds before I was back to feeling 100 per cent.”

Sanders’ most recent employment at BU was a homecoming of sorts.

“Deb once said that it was her dream come true that she was able to end her working career at Brandon University, as it was her first job when she was 16. She had come full circle,” said Susan Smale, BU’s Director of Business Operations. “We will really miss her.”

The flag at BU has been lowered to half-mast in Sanders’ honour.
