Brandon University, in partnership with the Brandon Sun and with Westman Communications Group, will host a pair of debates this month for the 2022 municipal election. The debates will be held at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall in the BU School of Music.
The Councillor Candidates Debate will be held on Wednesday. Oct. 12, starting at 6 p.m., and will be divided into three shorter one-hour-long sessions, with a short break between. Audiences welcome to join in person at any point in the evening. The first of these mini debates will be for candidates in Ward 1 and Ward 3. The second, starting at about 7:10 p.m., will be open to candidates in Ward 2 and Ward 10. The third and final will be for candidates in Wards 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, and is expected to start about 8:20 p.m.
The Mayoral Debate for candidates Jeff Fawcett and Elliott Oleson is scheduled for October 19, starting at 7 p.m.
All debates will be open to the public. The Lorne Watson Recital Hall is located in the BU School of Music, with convenient access from the 200-block of 20th Street. All BU parking lots are free in the evenings.
Debates will also be broadcast on following days on WCGtv. The candidates debate on Oct. 12 will be shown on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. and repeated Friday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. The mayoral debate on Oct. 19 will be shown on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. and repeated Friday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m.
The municipal election is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26.
