Brandon University’s (BU’s) School of Music is partnering with a long-running Manitoba concert series for the first concert of the pro series season.

Nine-piece Ensemble Télémaque, from Marseille, France, will open the 2022-23 pro series with a performance on Thursday, Sept. 22, beginning at 7:30 p.m., at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall in the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building. The performance is one of two Manitoba concerts by Ensemble Télémaque as part of the GroundSwell—Live series.

Ensemble Télémaque promises a diverse concert not to be missed, curated by Jim Hiscott. The program will feature the Canadian premieres of four new pieces written for this concert by Bekah Simms, Rita Ueda, James O’Callaghan and Jim Hiscott, mixed with other works from France and North America.

“We are thrilled to welcome audiences back into our fantastic concert hall,” said Greg Gatien, Dean of Music at BU.

“We think that this will be a wonderful way to begin our concert season.”

GroundSwell—Live events are pay-what-you-can, how-you-can. Tickets are available online at GSwell.ca or at the door by cash or cheque.

This is GroundSwell’s 31st season. Future GroundSwell performances will include a Transformation, a concert by BU School of Music pianist Megumi Masaki, on Thursday, Nov. 17 in the Muriel Richardson Auditorium of the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

The School of Music gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Manitoba Arts Council.
