BU alumni featured in Brandon Chamber Players concert

Brandon University (BU) alumni will be front-and-centre as the  Brandon Chamber Players continue celebrating the return to live music with their second concert of the 2021/2022.

Here We Are features new, original jazz compositions by Brandon-based saxophonist Aren Teerhuis. The concert will take place on Saturday, March 22 at BU’s Lorne Watson Recital Hall with performances at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Aren Teerhuis grew up outside of Winnipeg and moved to Brandon in 2011 to study jazz saxophone at Brandon University’s School of Music. Since completing his degrees, Aren has been an active performer and music educator in the Westman community. The performance features a full line-up of BU music grads: Aren Teerhuis, saxophone and composer; Scott Brown, guitar; Diogo Peixoto, guitar; Matt Kozicki, bass; and Graydon Cramer, drums.

“The music being performed this weekend has been in the works for nearly five years. The COVID-19 pandemic derailed several previous performance plans, so it is incredible to finally be presenting this concert!,” Teerhuis said. “I feel very fortunate to be presenting this concert with the Brandon Chamber Players and with such an amazing band. The music is inspired by stories and important moments from my life, and is dedicated to the people who helped shape those moments.

“These tunes are incredibly dear to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share them with the Westman community!

To accommodate social distancing guidelines, concerts will operate at a significantly reduced capacity. All attendees must provide proof of vaccination and ID at the door and wear masks at all times. Tickets must be reserved in advance and are available by contacting the Brandon Chamber Players through their website or by calling the School of Music office 204-727-9631. Seating is extremely limited, so it is recommended you reserve tickets well in advance. Concertgoers with reservations can pay at the door. General admission is $40 and $20 for students.

Brandon Chamber Players is grateful for the support of Manitoba Arts Council, SOCAN Foundation, Brandon University School of Music, the City of Brandon, Excel-7 ltd., and all our private and corporate donors and sponsors.
