School of Music offers free sessions to help musicians ‘return to play’

Music Enrichment at Brandon University (ME@BU) is offering free sessions for students and educators as they return to their school music programs.

Brandon University Music LogoThe instrument-specific advanced musicianship sessions will be held online on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Sessions will be held for flute, clarinet, saxophone, percussion, trumpet, French horn, trombone and low-brass, including tuba and euphonium.

“‘Return to play’ initiatives are common for athletes who have had their sports interrupted by the pandemic,” said Dr. Wendy McCallum, Professor of Music at BU. “Young musicians have also been profoundly affected this layoff. Many have had the opportunity to practise their instruments individually, but in the absence of regular in-person group instruction and the development opportunities that ensemble performances offer, students are more eager than ever to reach their performance goals. These free sessions are ideal for motivated high school students who want to expand their instrument-specific knowledge and performance skills.”

The sessions will be led by BU School of Music students, and will begin at 7:30 p.m., on ZOOM. Online registration is available at BrandonU.ca/music/mebu.
