Vaccination clinics return to Brandon University

Following a successful series of vaccination clinics last month on campus, the Brandon University community has another chance to get the jab this week.

Vaccination clinics to protect against Covid-19 will be held again in Harvest Hall, on Tuesday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 1–3 p.m.

Last month’s clinics saw 57 people get vaccinated, of which 45 were first doses.

This week’s clinics will again offer both first and second doses to anyone who is eligible, with both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines available. Anyone born on or before Dec. 31, 2009, is eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Anyone 18 years or older is eligible to receive either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Employees of Brandon University can use up to three hours of paid time to attend Covid-19 vaccine appointments and can draw on sick time or other balances to cover side effects. Professors and instructors are encouraged to be flexible with students who are receiving a vaccine or experiencing side effects.

Full vaccination, or an approved accommodation, will be expected in order to attend Brandon University campus after Oct. 31. Anyone who gets their second shot at one of these clinics will be fully vaccinated in plenty of time. Anyone who get’s their first shot at one of these clinics will be eligible for their second shot in early November. Those who are partially vaccinated with one shot will be able to attend campus until Nov. 14 with regular testing.

Vaccination Information

Both mRNA vaccines are safe, effective, and interchangeable. You do not need to wait for the same dose for your second shot. To get your second shot, you will need to know when you received your first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and the type of vaccine you received. If you do not recall this information and you have a Manitoba Health card, you can access the information online at sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/test-results. If your immunization record is incomplete or incorrect, or if you received a first dose outside of Manitoba, fill in this e-form to submit your information.

You will need to fill out a consent form for your first and second dose. This will ensure that any changes in your health status can be reviewed before your second dose, that providers will have the most up-to-date information in case you are getting a different vaccine, and that health professionals can review if you had an allergic reaction to a previous dose of the vaccine.
