Brandon University will extend Pass or No Credit grading options to students in the current Fall 2020 and coming Winter 2021 terms. These grade options were also previously extended to students last year, who were affected by the sudden onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is a time for compassion,” said BU Registrar Andrea McDaniel, who sent the news to students late yesterday after the decision was made by the BU Senate. “These options offer much-needed flexibility for students, recognizing that they continue to face ongoing disruption, unpredictable circumstances, and new challenges.”
Students will now be able to apply to have any passing grade reflected as simply Pass or any non-passing grade displayed as No Credit instead. Courses will still be displayed on a student’s transcript. Neither grade will count towards a student’s GPA, but a grade of Pass will still allow students to claim credit for the course.
Pass or No Credit grades can only be requested after a student has earned their regular grade in the class and must be requested by a specific deadline. Students also still have a few days to drop any class using the normal Voluntary Withdrawal method.
McDaniel urged students who are considering the grade conversion option to inform themselves thoroughly regarding possible impacts of converting a course grade to Pass. They should ensure that a grade of Pass would meeting minimum BU program, professional licensure, and/or professional/graduate program admission requirements.
