The annual BU Homecoming awards dinner and gala is coming to you this year with a special ‘Bobcat Appreciation Meal’ available for order this Friday for fans, alumni, and the entire community.
While in-person events are on hiatus for the current time, Brandon University and the BU Bobcats are teaming up with Everyone Eats Brandon to create a special meal with a blue-and-gold theme during what would have been Homecoming weekend and the annual Bobcats reunion weekend.
“Food is always something that brings people together, and we are going to help share the experience with as many people as we can this year,” said Carla Eisler, BU’s Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs. “It is also a chance to help show your support for the Bobcats.”
Everyone Eats, a partnership with BU’s Harvest Hall and the John Howard Society of Brandon that provides daily chef-inspired meals on a pay-what-you-can basis, is more than doubling capacity for the Friday meal, and will be able to offer 500 meals. Each has a suggested cost of just $8, but people can pay any price, with those who pay more helping to cover the cost for those who cannot afford it.
“Everyone deserves a great meal and this one will be a fun one for game night fans of the Bobcats, for BU alumni, and for all hungry people,” said Nicholas Namespetra, Manager of Food Services at BU and one of the leads of the Everyone Eats program. “We’re serving up perfectly seasoned chicken drumsticks, with delicious veggies on the side, including golden beats, yellow zucchini and purple potatoes. It all comes together in a blue-and-gold plate that will have you drooling.”
This Friday’s meals are available for pickup at BU with a limited number available for delivery by request. Members of the BU Bobcats women’s basketball team will be helping out with pickup and delivery, as will volunteers from the BU Alumni Association’s Brandon chapter. Also volunteering will be BU President David Docherty and his wife Kris.
“Everyone Eats is a great cause that we are excited to be a part to promote and do what we can to raise awareness on this very important issue in our communities,” said BU Bobcats women’s basketball head coach Novell Thomas. “Our athletes often reach the post-secondary level because they have benefited from some sort of community support or volunteerism. Despite rigorous academic and athletic commitments, this is one of many ways that we can give back to the community.”
The redesigned website makes ordering a breeze, at EveryoneEatsBrandon.ca. Orders can be made by 2 p.m., for pickup between 4–6 p.m. at BU. Orders can also be phoned in to 204-571-8524. Weekly menus are posted online and on Facebook at EveryoneEatsBrandon.
