Brandon University students, plus faculty and staff, now have access to a new app and online resource for mental wellness known as TAO, or Therapy Assistance Online.
The TAO resources online include more than 150, brief, effective, educational sessions covering 50 common topics and skills related to mental health, wellness and substance abuse issues. They are completely private, interactive, and skill-building modules that can be worked through at peoples’ own pace. TAO resources are accessible to anyone with an @BrandonU.ca email address.
“We know that many students experience stress and anxiety, and helping them appropriately manage those challenges also helps increases their chances of academic success,” said BU Dean of Students Katie Gross. “There is plenty on TAO that could be of interest to students who are approaching mid-terms right now, including sessions on Goal Setting, Motivation, Maximizing Your Odds at Success, and Building a Social Support Safety Net.”
As people work through different TAO modules, the system will suggest sessions, practice tools, and mindfulness sessions that may be of additional help. TAO also includes a screening tool to help identify options that may help, or people can select the module that is right for them.
TAO can be accessed online from the BU Personal Counselling website at BrandonU.ca/Personal-Counselling/TAO, which includes information about how to register, links to the TAO app on the App Store and Google Play.
This is a new addition to the suite of options that the university has available to support members of the BU community. As always, students can also book an appointment with a Personal Counsellor by calling 204-727-9737. Faculty and Staff are also encouraged to take advantages of the many supports available through Homewood Health.
