Care packages provided for students who remain in BU Residence

Students still in BU Residence received a care package this week from people hoping to help ease the strain of being away from friends and family.

Care packs were assembled for students still in BU Residence.

“This care package really brightened my day for sure,” said Yushan Yang, a BU student who is still in residence. “I really appreciate the concern from Brandon University and from alumni.”

While most Brandon University students have headed home or found elsewhere to stay during the pandemic and campus closure, there are a few still living in BU Residences with nowhere else to go.

“Normally, our Residences are bustling, social places, and they are designed with an emphasis on large common areas for groups to gather, for studying and for fun,” said Derek Booth, BU’s Residence Manager. “A lot of that has been prudently curtailed, and so we are finding new ways to keep residents socially engaged.”

The care packages included a range of snacks, coupons and entertainment items including homemade muffins, an orange, chips, smarties, a drink, BU water bottle, puzzles, Sudoku and crossword puzzle books, and gift cards, plus coupons from Booster Juice, Chopped Leaf and Domino’s Pizza.

“People have really stepped forward to support students all through this pandemic, and it’s been so heartening to see,” said Carla Eisler, BU’s Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs. “We saw this with the incredible response to our Student Emergency Fund and we saw it with the generous support for these care packages too, from the Alumni Association, from individuals, and from local businesses. We thank you, and our students thank you.”
