Strong BU presence at Westman Multicultural Festival

This article is over 4 years old.

It’s time to go to the pavilions, and behind all of the amazing entertainment and mouth-watering food are countless volunteers working to make it all happen — many members of the BU community among them.

The Indian Pavilion is one of 10 at this year’s Westman Multicultural Festival, and it features BU professors Gautam Srivastava, Faiz Ahmed and Mousumi Majumder, along with BU alumni.

Dr. Srivastava is also Secretery and a spokesperson for the festival. He is joined by fellow professor Tyler Foster, who does fundraising.

Many students and grads are also involved, including BU alumnus Emilio Brown, who runs the Jamaican pavilion.

This year’s Westman Multicultural Festival features pavilions the likes of El Salvadoran, English, Indian, Métis, Mauritian, Jamaican, Mexican, Philippine, Scottish and Ukrainian. Most pavilions have been revamped with new foot items and new entertainment.

It all gets underway tonight, Jan. 23, and continues Friday evening, Jan. 24 and the afternoon and evening of Saturday, Jan. 25. Entrance to all pavilions is free, with food and drink for sale.

Also new this year is extremely mild weather. The Environment Canada Forecast calls for temperatures as high as -2 ºC on Saturday.
