Permanent tipi to be installed at BU today

This article is over 6 years old.

A permanent tipi is going up in a prominent location on the Brandon University campus.

The tipi will be installed just off of 18th Street, on a triangular piece of grass near McMaster Hall and the BU book store.

A Tipi Installation Ceremony will begin at 4:00 p.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 4) and is part of the Tipi Tours Legacy Project. This local initiative is organized by the Walking with Our Sisters committee, which brought the WWOS art installation to the Brandon University campus and who wanted to create a commemorative legacy.

The BU tipi is just one of multiple tipis that will be installed across the community. Previously, the group has installed similar tipis at Brandon City Hall and at the Brandon Police Station.

Tipi installation will be followed by the Sisters in Spirit walk that is normally held each year on this date.  The walk will go to Queen Elizabeth Park for a Vigil and Petal Ceremony. If participating in the Sisters in Spirit Walk, women are encouraged to wear skirts.
