Several Brandon University buildings will be without power for up to two hours on Thursday afternoon, during a coordinated switchover of high-voltage power.
Manitoba Hydro will be on site for the switchover, which is planned for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21.
All of McMaster Hall, Clark Hall and Original Building, the Education Building, the John E. Robbins Library, and the Health Studies Complex will be without power. Elevators in these buildings will not work, and will be cleared and locked ahead of the power outage. Affected buildings will have emergency lighting only: in McMaster, there will be stairwell lighting; in Clark Hall, a generator will provide some hallway lighting. Washrooms will continue to function, although they may be dark unless there is natural light, and electric hand dryers will be off.
The main library will close at 1 p.m. for the day. However, the Music Library will not be affected and will remain open normal hours. Please check with other affected offices as some will re-open when power is restored, while others will remain closed for the day.
The Brandon University website and other internet-based services, including Moodle and email, will not be affected, and should remain normally accessible. However, IT Services is located in the North Stacks of the library and it could also lose power. The IT Helpdesk plans to be available Thursday afternoon by appointment at Helpdesk@BrandonU.ca.
If there are any concerns please notify Al Puhach immediately by email at PuhachA@BrandonU.ca or phone 204-727-9661.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
