BRANDON, Man. – The Pro Series continues at Brandon University (BU) on Tuesday, Feb. 14 with an annual treat – the Faculty Concert.
The talented musicians who make up the faculty at the BU School of Music have prepared a Valentine’s Day programme for lovers of great music. Included in the offerings are a wide range of gems by ground-breaking masters – from J.S. Bach, the dominant voice of late baroque music, to contemporary composer, Rozalie Hirs.
“Every day there are frequent reminders of how fortunate I am to have colleagues who are such talented performers, teachers, and scholars” said Greg Gatien, the Dean of Music at Brandon University.
“This concert features a great cross-section of our faculty, and – admittedly, I am biased – would be a great way to spend the evening on Valentine’s Day.”
In the lineup for the evening are violinist Kerry DuWors, flutist Nancy Hennen, vocalist Sharon Rogers, violist Robert Richardson Jr., cellist Leanne Zacharias, saxophonist Wayne de Silva, guitarist Paul Madryga, harpsichordist Lawrence Jones, jazz pianist Michael Cain, pianist Megumi Masaki, and pianist Robert Richardson Sr. Some of the works planned for the concert are J.S.Bach’s Trio Sonata, BWV 1079 No. 8, Rodrigo’s Càntico de la Esposa, Debussy’s Apparition, Halvorsen’s Passacaglia in G Minor, and the world premiere of Hirs’ “On Tenderness.”
“It would be wonderful for Brandon and area music lovers to join us for this unforgettable showcase!” said Gatien.
The Pro Series’ Faculty Concert will begin on Tuesday at 8 p.m., in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, located in the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building at BU. Tickets will be available at the door prior to the performance or in advance at the School of Music main office. They are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, students and BU alumni, and $10 for Conservatory students.
The next Pro Series concert presents an evening with Aaron Wilson and Friends, featuring Manitoba’s premiere trombone ensemble. This concert will take place Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m., also in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall.
