Colleen Cutschall will speak at Brandon University’s Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art on Monday.

Colleen Cutschall, Professor Emeritus at Brandon University and the founder of its Department of Visual and Aboriginal Arts, will give a free public talk at BU on Monday, Oct. 3. The free talk begins at 7:30 p.m., in the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art.

Cutschall will be the Department of Visual and Aboriginal Art’s inaugural visiting guest speaker. A senior Oglala-Sicangu Lakota artist, Cutschall is originally from Pine Ridge, S.D. She now lives in Eden, Man., and has spent more than 20 years in southwestern Manitoba as an artist, art historian, educator and curator.

Her early work in painting and installations focused on Lakota creating mythology and themes of sacred time and space. Continuing with apocalyptic scenes from some of her earlier work, Cutschall’s most recent drawings have focused on the environmental effects of aerosol spraying.
