Rural Development Strategy Discussion at AMM Convention

IMG_3926.JPGMunicipal councilors discuss what is needed to grow rural communities during a session at the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) convention in Brandon. Rural development is a complicated issue where jobs and business retention and expansion, need to be linked to housing, and infrastructure investment. Local economic development is more than just a government responsibility as it reaches across schools, people, hospitals, and housing. Also, education of municipal councils, leadership, funding and expertise are needed, along with rural broadband investment. The strategy needs to be flexible to fit the various situations. Joe Masi, Executive Director of AMM, facilitated a room full of comments and suggestions. RDI is a member of the steering committee for the Manitoba rural development strategy.
