Brenda LePage, Western Diversification, spoke to the need of investing in rural areas. Others on this opening panel at the OECD modern rural policy conference spoke on the need to have integrated policy with rural and urban areas. Basic services including broadband are essential to realize value add in local areas, as part of placed based policy. OECD helps validate and gently push countries in their practices and policies to improve. RDI is active in attending conference sessions and discussing the role and dimensions of rural regions.
