Lidia Carvajal, institute coordinator, introduced the 2014 ICRPS in Toluca University. She challenged us to live the Mexico experience and equally important to reflect on this reality – both rural and urban, rich and poor. Tom Johnson, one of the founding members of ICRPS, asked everyone to contribute to the goal of preparing students and reinforcing faculty in their rural research pursuits and careers. Thirty graduate students and 19 faculty were welcomed by a five piece musical ensemble and several university dignitaries to kick off the two week school.
