Invest in University with Score a Seat

BRANDON, MB – Brandon University (BU) supporters now have the unique opportunity to purchase their very own seat in the Richardson Gymnasium with Score a Seat, a new campaign launched today to raise the final dollars needed for the Healthy Living Centre (HLC).

“I urge both individuals and businesses to consider joining me in supporting this incredible facility,” says Dr. Tom Breneman, Chair of the BUILD fundraising campaign which helped to build the HLC, a community sports and recreation complex on the BU campus featuring 2 gymnasiums, a state-of-the-art fitness room, sports medicine centre, and the largest indoor track in the Westman area.

Score a Seat gives residents, alumni, and BU staff and students the opportunity to purchase seats for $500, $750, and $1000. Each seat will be inscribed with the purchaser’s name or a special dedication.

Dr. Breneman is optimistic that Score a Seat will generate the community support to fully realize a recent generous gift by the Richardson Foundation – a matching donation for every dollar pledged to the HLC in 2014, up to $250,000. “I have seen this community come together so many times before,” says Dr. Breneman, “and I believe the support of Brandon University’s HLC will be no exception.”

Since opening, the HLC has become a community hub, hosting more than 75 events including the Jingle Bell Walk for Arthritis, blood donor clinics, YMCA’s Power of Being a Girl, and, most recently, Clara’s Big Ride, featuring six-time Olympic athlete Clara Hughes. Currently, the University, in collaboration with the non-profit destination marketing organization Brandon First, is preparing a bid to host the 2016 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national championship volleyball tournament.

BU President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah Poff says, “The community has a very unique opportunity to essentially double their contribution to the Healthy Living Centre, thanks to the generosity of the Richardson Foundation and the dollar-for-dollar matching donation.”

All Score a Seat supporters will receive a tax receipt for charitable donation. Purchase options include buy-now or monthly payments for up to two years, with installments as low as $20.83.
