BRANDON, MB – Brandon University (BU) is exploring new opportunities in India, as part of a provincial trade mission now underway in the world’s second most populous country.
Dr. Dean Care, Acting Vice-President (Academic and Provost), is visiting 10 Indian universities with the goal of increasing BU’s enrollment – an important objective in the University’s five-year strategic plan.
“Our primary mission on this trip is to recruit students,” says Dr. Care. “With a population of more than 1.2 billion, India is 1000 universities short in meeting domestic demands, so the opportunity for international recruitment is enormous.”
Dr. Care says a ‘2+2’ model where students would take two years of a program in India and two years at BU would benefit students and faculty in both countries. Faculty research partnerships will also be discussed.
A new Director of International Activities will be in-place by the start of the 2013-2014 academic year to bolster BU’s existing International Office. BU President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah Poff anticipates new partnerships from the current trade mission could bring Indian students on-campus as soon as September 2014.
“International students represent a part of our future and we are investing now to meet that future, in accordance with the University’s BUILD 2010-2015 strategic initiatives.”
