BRANDON, MB – Brandon University WUSC and Ten Thousand Villages invite everyone to join in World Fair Trade Day (WFTD) activities on Saturday, May 12.
WFTD is a wonderful opportunity for adults and children to discover a world of handicrafts, sample Fair Trade food, play games and hear music. WUSC and Ten Thousand Villages in Brandon will welcome customers with a sampling of Fair Trade food products, special discounts, prizes, surprises and entertainment by Merv Rollins on his drums from 2 to 4 in the afternoon. Join in by using some of the drums and shakers!
As part of the collaboration, 15 per cent of sales from purchases made with the WFTD coupon will be donated to BU WUSC’s Student Refugee Program. Every year, Brandon University sponsors a student from a refugee camp to come to the institution and embark upon post-secondary studies that he or she would otherwise be unlikely to do. Coupons are available in the Brandon Ten Thousand Villages store before May 12 and from Brandy Robertson (please see contact information below.)
Through Fair Trade artisans receive the respect, dignity and hope that comes from working hard and earning fair value for their work. Men and women around the world have a simple dream – to earn an honest living, to provide for their children and to be gainfully employed in a job that brings dignity and joy. BU WUSC and Ten Thousand Villages advocate on behalf of these men and women and the ethical purchasing that leads to their livelihood.
