BRANDON, MB – Recent Bobcat grad Kevin Miller will see his first international competition next month as the Russell, Manitoba product has cracked Canada’s Pan-American Games men’s volleyball roster.

Miller and his countrymen will head to Guadalajara, Mexico October 24 to 29 to represent Canada.

“It’s pretty exciting,” says Miller, who is currently training with the Pan-Am Games team in Gatineau, Quebec. “I’ve always dreamed of one day playing for team Canada and to now have that opportunity is amazing. Playing at the international level is a big step up from the CIS, but I’m really looking forward to playing against the best in the world.”

Miller had an outstanding career as a Bobcat. The graduate of Russell’s Major Pratt High School finished his five-year stint with two medals from CIS nationals, and was named a tournament all-star at the national final this past March. He wrapped up his career as a Bobcat with 788 kills and 926.5 points. He also holds the school record for career digs with 424.

“Kevin is one of the players who has had the most impact on our team,” says men’s volleyball head coach Russ Paddock. “Kevin was a starter for his entire five-year career, and was constantly contributing to the team and the goals we were trying to accomplish. It’s great to see him get an opportunity to compete internationally for the first time.”

Miller and his team mates will travel to Brazil on October 11 to train with and compete against the Brazilian Pan-Am Games team before heading to Mexico on October 24. Miller will be one of the 6,000 athletes from 42 nations expected to participate in 36 sports at this year’s Pan-Am Games.
