Brandon, MB — Professor Hamid Mumin, of the Geology Department at Brandon University, has received recognition for his work. He was chosen as one of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Distinguished Lecturers during the CIM Conference’s Award Gala, held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal in May.
Dr. Mumin was lauded for “his ground-breaking work in the identification and discovery of Iron Oxide Copper-Gold deposits.”
“I am very honoured to receive this recognition from my peers and colleagues at CIM (Canada’s largest national organization representing the minerals and mining industry.) It is a testament to the quality of research and public dissemination of knowledge of a highly technical nature that is being carried out at Brandon University,” he said. “I particularly would like to recognize all my students and colleagues at Brandon, in the federal and provincial government surveys, and at other institutions who worked diligently on our many projects over the past 16 years, without whom, this would never have been possible.”
This nod from CIM will see Dr. Mumin give a series of talks across the country in the upcoming academic year.
“This will bring national recognition to Brandon University, and especially to the Department of Geology,” he said. “It is also a great opportunity to meet with my colleagues from across Canada, and to continue our scientific collaborations in ways not previously possible. Most of all, I am truly excited for the new opportunities that this will bring for students studying geology at Brandon University.”
In existence since 1898, the CIM is a respected technical society of professionals in the Canadian minerals, metals, materials and energy industries in this country. Dr. Mumin is one of more than 12,000 CIM members — professionals from industry, government and academia — in Canada and beyond.
