Bobcats Begin Reloading Following Another Successful Season

BRANDON, MB – It’s been just a little over two weeks since the Bobcats men’s volleyball team won a silver medal at the CIS national championship tournament in Langley, BC, but that has not stopped head coach Russ Paddock from looking down the road at next season.

Paddock has signed his first recruit for the upcoming 2010-2011 season, but he did not have to look very far.

At a special signing ceremony Paddock announced local product D.J. McCharles as the newest member of the Bobcats Tuesday afternoon. The product of Crocus Plains High School will be graduating this June and joining the Bobcats this fall.

“I’m looking forward to playing in front of friends and family,” said McCharles. “I want to work hard over the summer and try to become a starter one day and then continue to help this program to strive.”

McCharles had a stellar career both at the high school level and club level. He’ll be competing with the Brandon Volleyball Club U18 team at nationals in B.C. in May.

“I think that D.J. has the physical ability to be able to play at the net at the CIS level right away,” says Russ Paddock. “The fact that we can have local players compete and succeed here at home goes a long way to growing our program.”

The Bobcats graduated five players from this year’s silver-medal team.
