BRANDON, MB — On behalf of the Government of Canada, the Honourable Tony Clement announced on Wednesday that $275.6 million has been invested in the Canada Research Chairs Program. This comes as the program marks its tenth anniversary.

Among the new or renewed Canada Research Chairs (CRC) at 53 universities is Dr. Di Brandt, Canada Research Chair in Literature and Creative Writing and professor of English and Creative Writing at Brandon University. Dr. Brandt’s renewal as a CRC is for a period of five years and will contribute more than $500,000 to Brandon University.

“The Government of Canada is investing in innovative research in Canada universities. The program is very significant in giving additional research time to researchers,” said Dr. Brandt. “This allows universities to develop a profile in designated fields, that is of significance and use to Canadian culture.”

The 310 chairholders included in the announcement will conduct research across a range of important fields, including in water security, molecular neuroscience and globalization. The results of their research will hold the potential to benefit all sectors of Canadian society.
