BRANDON, MB – The heated rivalry between Brandon University and Thompson Rivers University is on once again.
The Bobcats and WolfPack will meet in Canada West men’s volleyball playoffs for the third year in a row. Two years ago the TRU WolfPack eliminated the Bobcats, in Brandon and went on to win a bronze medal at the CIS nationals. Last year, BU returned the favor by eliminating TRU in the Canada West Final Four, and then went on to earn their own Bronze medal.
Game times are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Should a third match be needed, it will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
“This is volleyball played at the highest level in Canada,” says Bobcat Athletic Director, Kirk De Fazio. “It is going to be electric in the BU gym. The winner moves on to the Final Four in Edmonton next weekend.”
Canada West playoff ticket prices at the gym this weekend are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors, students and BU students, alumni and staff.
As added excitement for this weekend, one Brandon University student will have a “shot” at free tuition.
Megan Jewell, a BU pre-nursing student, will have the opportunity to make a half-court basketball shot between the second and third set on Saturday. Megan’s name was drawn as part of a BU student participation contest. If she successfully makes the shot, Megan will receive tuition for one term (up to 15 credit hours) at BU next year. Also, several other contests will be held at the same time for prizes.
