BRANDON, MB – At a concert and reception celebrating the finale of the three-year Standing Ovation Campaign held at Brandon University’s School of Music on Monday, February 8th, it was announced that $824,510 in gifts and pledges has been raised for the School of Music.

“We are very pleased with the generosity of our donors. This Campaign has assisted students with bursaries and scholarships, enhanced our ability to replace and repair our instruments and offset the costs of ensemble tours,” says BU President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Deborah Poff.

In addition, all donations to the Lorne Watson Recital Hall Seat Sale (to date $126,000) will support an endowment that will continue to fund the most pressing needs of the School of Music in perpetuity.

“We are extremely grateful of the generous and ongoing support from our patrons for the School of Music. The success of this campaign is a tribute to their legacy, vision, and dedication to our School of Music,” says Campaign Chair and Dean of Music, Dr. Michael Kim.

Dr. Poff and Dr. Kim were joined by a number of Campaign Donors on hand including honorary Campaign Chairperson Dr. James Ehnes and Past-Chair Dr. Glen Carruthers to celebrate this victory for the School of Music.

Prior to a celebratory reception, donors and guests were treated to a performance of The Schumann Letters, a musical narrative celebrating notes of music, song and love featuring Dean of Music Michael Kim on piano, Manitoba-born Soprano Susan Gilmour Bailey, and Canadian actor Colin Fox as narrator.

Brandon University is internationally known for its exceptional School of Music as its graduate programs continue to enroll students from around the world. The School of Music enters its 104 th year of operation in 2010.
