On Thursday, September 3rd, Brandon University will be inviting staff to a seminar, celebrating and marking the importance of teaching in a university context. The event will start with new President & Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Deborah Poff. She will be the keynote speaker for the session entitled, “Leadership and Learning: The Role and Vocation of University Teaching.”
Session overview: With the continuing pressure of universities to prepare specialized professionals for a global marketplace there has been less and less attention paid to the importance of the leadership role of professors in educating students to take university education seriously as a preparation for their own future leadership roles in fostering ethical leadership and promoting sustainable and civil societies. This discussion will explore the history of university education for the public good and the role of university professors today in educating students for success and leadership in their own lives.
