BRANDON, MB – Coach Jaime Hickson is pleased to announce that Rosemary Mills has declared Brandon University as her institution and basketball program of choice. The twenty-year old, 5’10” shooting guard from Winnipeg will be joining the Lady ‘Cats Basketball roster this fall and entering the Bachelor of Arts Honors Degree program in Psychology at BU.
Mills competed with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen for the 2007-2008 season and withdrew herself from the program the following spring. She spent the following season reflecting, studying, working and discovering that she wasn’t done with basketball yet.
“The time away gave me some insight, and made me want to return to play for different reasons then I was playing for before,” says Mills. “I’m extremely competitive and love to win, but now I’m playing because I want to, and not because I’m expected to.”
When asked why she chose BU she replied, “If I didn’t think Brandon had the potential to be one of the most competitive teams in the CIS, then I wouldn’t have committed to their program. By filling a few missing pieces within the team our consistency will do nothing but improve, and we can ultimately win more games. And even though not many teams have been on the losing end of a game against Brandon in the last few years, I do recall being on the losing end for back-to-back games to the Bobcats. I’ve seen the unity and strength of this team at its best moments, and it was impressive. I want to be a part of the next steps forward.”
Head Coach Jaime Hickson declares, “We are very thrilled to have Rosemary join our team. She adds height, range and immediate scoring with defense in the guard positions. She likes to attack as much as she likes to create for others and has a strong will and ambition to win. We need scorers who are multi-dimensional threats on the perimeter and she fits the bill.”
“Rosemary, along with our other recruits this season, breathes in new life to our program. Her love for the game, for success and shear hatred for losing will elevate the performance of her surrounding teammates. We need this type of talent infusion if we’re going to take the next step forward and start winning games.”
